Master Lu: It depends. If they are born with these problems, it is difficult to change them. If they become deaf-mute later on, there is still the possibility of improvement by reciting Buddhist scriptures. For the latter, the illness is at least a result of karmic retribution. Master Lu: Usually, the cause is from their previous lives. Cause and effect exist in three lives. In their previous lives, they must have created bad karma. They saw what they should not have seen. After watching dirty things, they may become blind in this life. For example, when you look at murders, you find it fun. When you accumulate karma to a certain degree via peeking at sex between men and women, your eyes must be blind in this life. If you look at something too dirty or too cruel, it will enter your Eighth Consciousness and you can’t get rid of it. In the next life, you will be blind.
Female listener: Can it be cured?
Master Lu: The disease stays in the mind. There is still hope before he is totally crippled…….
Female listener: Is it true that congenital disorders are not easy to cure, but acquired illnesses are easy to get well off?
Master Lu: If the doctor says no, the physical body may have changed, so it may not be cured. The acquired means that the previous life’s karma is not deep. He did not do too many bad things in his previous life. During this life, he looked at a few things that shouldn’t be looked at, which triggered the karma in his previous life to flare up. If these people can recite Buddhist scriptures to cultivate their minds they will certainly not be blind, deaf and mute.
Female listener: How should these fellow practitioners solve this problem via Little Houses?
Master Lu: The main thing is to recite the Heart Sutra, which allows people to understand everything, and actually wakes up the “inner mind”, not the “outer mind”. Why can’t the eyes see? Why can’t the ears hear? His nature is not open, his conscience is not open, his wisdom is not enlightened. So he must recite the Heart Sutra. Then recite more Eighty-Eight Buddhas Great Repentance and Little House. The Little House should be recited for life.

Master Lu: It is possible. If there is indeed such a deaf-mute practitioner in reality, tell him to repent properly. Usually, deaf-mute people are not repentant enough, and they must have created a lot of speech karma in their past lives.

台长答：人间属于残缺不全，一般都是前世的因果，我们讲三世因果。前世一定造了恶因，不该看的不能看，肮脏的东西看到了，所以这辈子就可能会变成盲人。比如看杀人的时候，还觉得挺乐趣；还有偷看男女之事，达到一定因果时，这辈子眼睛一定是瞎掉。太肮脏的东西，太凶残的东西眼睛里看进去之后就进了八识田中，去也去不掉，下辈子眼睛就会瞎掉。
女听众：能治好吗？
台长答：心灵的病，如果还没有完全残缺之前还是有希望的……
女听众：是不是先天的不容易好，后天的容易好？
台长答：如果医生已经说不行的话，可能这个肉体发生变化，就不一定治得好。后天性的说明前世的业障还不深，没有做太多坏事，只不过看了几件不该看的事,可能这辈子某一件事触发了上辈子的这个孽障，造了这个因，所有一下子……实际上这些人划不来，如果早一点念经修心肯定不会瞎掉，肯定不会聋掉。
女听众：有这种问题的同修应该怎样组合经文呢？
台长答：最主要是念心经，心经可以让人什么都明白，实际上就是开了“内心”，而不是开了“外心”。为什么眼睛看不见？耳朵听不见？你的本性没有打开，良心没有打开，智慧没有打开。所以要念心经，然后多念礼佛、小房子，小房子要一辈子念下去。
